Dating in NYC sucks. Capitalism has taken what has always been an emotionally fraught and socially complicated ritual and somehow made it equal parts boring and excruciating. Dating apps ask you to decide if you'd like to date someone by showing you their most staged Instagram photos. Text chat chemistry can fall apart once you finally meet in-person, sending you back to apps once again. We know how hard it is out there, which is why we're building a different way to connect If you're single (or partnered and poly) and looking for a way to cut through the bullshit and make actual meaningful connections we're the low-stress alternative.

At ROLL THE DICE you get off your phone and sit down with a table full of folks just like you. Forget about awkward small talk, focus on playing the game and let people get to know you naturally. Worried you won't have enough in common? Each table is built with shared identities, hobbies, and backgrounds in mind. Sick of speed dating events built for the heterosexual and cisgender folks? Looking to connect with other people of color? Covid cautious and seeking someone similar? We've got you covered. We have sessions for board games and tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons. Fill out a form here and join a session!

At the end of the night you can choose who at the table you'd like to get to know better, and if you both choose each other we send you each other's contact info.

Not looking for love? We're offering the same event but for folks looking for friends! Looking for something in-between? We're offering groups for folks looking for friends-with-benefits as well.

We're also looking for Dungeon Masters/game facilitators for our events, specifically for folks who share the identity of the groups we're running: people of color, covid cautious, and queer game runners are encouraged to apply! Game runners are paid 30 dollars per player at their table, with a max of six players. Ideal facilitators have experience running Dungeons & Dragons as well as other games either with friends, at cons, or at local gaming stores. Improv or theater experience is also helpful. Please email resumes to info@thecityofdoors.com.
